I see more and more companies investing in it, and I see more and more contributors to the Mozilla project. I'm also hearing more and more that governments in various countries, states, or cities, are moving away from proprietary software to more open software. The more interest there is in open source, the more companies and individuals will contribute to it.

I think to a certain degree we liked kind of always being the underdog. I liked it better when we were flying under the radar, than being so much like the feature attraction because it adds a certain level of pressure and expectation.

It is driven by open source principles in that ideas are proposed and commented upon and evolved to something that is better than the original. Marketing, though, requires skills that a person who can develop may not have, such as artistic skills and being able to communicate in a non-technical fashion.
