Mozilla 1.4 was released on Monday. This version features support for NTLM authentication on Windows, overhauled bookmarks, improved junk mail controls, dynamic click-and-drag image and table resizing in Composer and thousands of other enhancements.
The release was preceded a few hours earlier by the launch of Netscape 7.1, which is based on Mozilla 1.4. Netscape DevEdge has a section for Web developers about the improvements in Netscape 7.1.
In future milestone cycles, mozilla.org plans to switch to Mozilla Firebird and Mozilla Thunderbird as the default Web browsing and mail/news applications.
The first July Mozilla Thunderbird build is now available. This new version allows you to block remote images in messages, automatically sanitizes junk messages to remove potentially harmful HTML code, adds inline table editing controls in HTML mail composition and also features several other improvements. In recent weeks, a page of proposals for a redesign of the Junk Mail Controls dialog has been created and some information about planned support for real time black lists (RBLs) has been added.
Mozilla Firebird now includes mousewheel autoscroll functionality. It makes use of code from the AutoScroll project on mozdev.
Mike Potter has retired as head of the Mozilla Calendar project. Mostafa Hosseini has been named as the new project lead.
Gervase Markham is looking for a Python hacker to help out with the relicensing scripts. The scripts have to update most of the source code license headers to the new MPL/GPL/LGPL tri-license.
The CSS parser now supports the CSS3 :: notation for pseudo-elements
(bug 62843).
The trunk is currently open (but check tinderbox for the latest status). The freeze for 1.5 Alpha is scheduled for midnight between Tuesday 8th July and Wednesday 9th July.
