This status update page is updated approximately once a week. To get news in between these updates, you are invited to check out MozillaZine, a site devoted to Mozilla news and advocacy.
Two release candidates of Mozilla 1.5, Mozilla 1.5 Release Candidate 1 and Mozilla 1.5 Release Candidate 2, have been made available for testing purposes (RC2 supersedes RC1). The final version of Mozilla 1.5 is expected to be released in the first week of October.
More Mozilla 1.4.1 release candidate builds can be found at ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest-1.4.1.
Two rounds of Mozilla Thunderbird 0.3 release candidates have been made available, with the latest builds for each platform located at ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/2003-09-24-1.5. Take a look at Scott MacGregor's message about Thunderbird 0.3 RC1 and announcement regarding the second release candidate for more information. These release candidates come from the new Thunderbird 0.3 branch, which itself was created from the Mozilla 1.5 branch. Thunderbird 0.3 should be released around the same time as Mozilla 1.5 and Firebird 0.7.
The build system for the standalone version of Composer has been checked in. Instructions explaining how to build standalone Composer are available.
ChatZilla 0.9.35 has landed on the trunk and 1.5 branch (bug 217275).
Several more mozilla.org services have now moved to hosting provided by meer.net:
Bart Decrem has announced that the Mozilla Foundation will soon be offering fee-based telephone support to end users in partnership with DecisionOne.
Mozilla project hosting site mozdev recently turned three years old.
Robert O'Callahan has written some guidelines for creating efficient and easy-to-use interfaces.
David Baron has posted a list of things he would like to fix in layout. He also kicked off a discussion on reorganizing the directory structure within layout.
There is now a preference for specifying whether opening a bookmark group should replace the existing tabs or append the new pages to the current set (bug 203960).
The new mail notification (biff) is no longer triggered when only junk mail arrives (bug 189289).
When the 'start my reply above the quoted text' setting is selected for a mail or newsgroups account, the signature is also placed above the quoted text (bug 62429).
In Mail & Newsgroups, the Recipient column can now be displayed in the thread pane of all folders and newsgroups, not just the Sent folder (equally, the Sender column can now be displayed in the thread pane of the Sent folder) (bug 36492).
In the GTK 2 builds, Mozilla now uses the GNOME application associations as the default settings for helper applications (bug 128668).
The trunk is currently open (but check tinderbox for the latest status). Checkins to the 1.5 branch require approval from drivers@mozilla.org.
